COMMITMENTS

To operate, AREI will develop the engagement of multiple African stakeholders to design and develop programs that can help countries make the rapid transition to modern and intelligent renewable energy systems that increasingly define the world's energy future.

Commitment

AREI's commitment is to generate transformational change towards universal access to energy and the exploitation of renewable energy sources throughout the African continent and to achieve the objectives of 2020 at 10 GW and 2030 at 300 GW.
Therefore, the AREI Framework and Action Plan highlight the critical importance of supporting policies, programs, incentives and regulatory reforms that are national in scope and likely to generate new projects on the ground. In addition, AREI also aims to facilitate the mobilisation of financing for specific installation projects exploiting renewable energy sources and capacity building projects for project promoters and investors as a complementary activity.
AREI must ensure that it will allocate funds equitably among the various beneficiaries, among the various technologies using renewable energy sources, between grid-connected and off-grid systems and according to other criteria, in accordance with the AREI Framework. The criteria used to ensure this balance are presented in the dedicated section.
AREI will collaborate with, support and build on the many renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives that exist in Africa.
AREI will complement these initiatives, focusing on areas that they do not cover or where they could be strengthened, and focusing first on accelerating the implementation of priority renewable energy projects.
In its collaboration with regional, sub-regional, national and local stakeholders, the Initiative will follow a basic principle: jointly identify opportunities to make energy services more available for production, while meeting basic social services (education, health and community services).
