COMMITMENTS

To operate, AREI will develop the engagement of multiple African stakeholders to design and develop programs that can help countries make the rapid transition to modern and intelligent renewable energy systems that increasingly define the world's energy future.

Continuation of the AREI Commitment for the 2020-2030 period

From 2020 to 2030, AREI will build on its experience from Phase I to implement comprehensive national policies across Africa.
AREI will strengthen engagement and collaboration with States and other decision-makers, many sources of funding (public, private, national and international), entrepreneurs, members of civil society and associations and other interested parties.
During Phase II, AREI will use its experience from Phase I to actively encourage the large-scale implementation of transformative renewable energy and energy efficiency programs and national policies and incentives across the African continent.
Efforts to encourage stable enabling environments through new policies, regulatory reforms, safeguards and capacity building activities will intensify critical and growing investments and develop renewable energy among a wide range of actors (most of whom, including small entities, will be new to the energy sector).
AREI will work to facilitate fair contractual agreements in this new policy, project development and investment framework to ensure that efforts are in line with its principles.

AREI will create a platform for the engagement of states and actors from a large number of countries in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and North America, with links to Africa and an interest in serving the continent and its development.
It will address both the scope of potential partnerships and the need to raise the profile of African leadership in the crucial period leading up to 2020, when the world will have to close the emissions gap and begin implementing a new global climate change agreement.

AREI will collaborate with, support and build on the many renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives that exist in Africa.

AREI will complement these initiatives, focusing on areas that they do not cover or where they could be strengthened, and focusing on accelerating the implementation of priority renewable energy projects.

In its collaboration with regional, sub-regional, national and local stakeholders, the Initiative will follow a basic principle: jointly identify opportunities to make energy services more available for production, while meeting the growing demands for energy services related to other important needs such as education, health and community services.
