ASSIGNEMENTS

To operate, AREI will develop the engagement of multiple African stakeholders to design and develop programs that can help countries make the rapid transition to modern and intelligent renewable energy systems that increasingly define the world's energy future.

AREI & its Mission in 5 Points

The results that programmatic actions facilitated by transformative policy measures are expected to produce include:
- the installation, by 2020, of at least 10 gigawatts (GW) of new and additional energy production capacity from renewable energy sources and, by 2030, at least 300 GW;
- Universal access to modern energy systems in Africa by 2030;
- the quantitative and relative increase in the number of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) or other users connected to national networks or new mini-networks;
- the quantitative and relative increase in the share of renewable energies in total energy consumption, particularly in the agricultural, industrial and service sectors;
- the quantitative and relative increase in the share of African companies providing renewable energy facilities, supply systems and services to African national markets.

AREI is rooted in the context of sustainable development and climate change. It shows how low or zero carbon development can be achieved in African countries through climate finance and policy instruments based on the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It recognizes the crucial importance of rapidly expanding access to energy for increased well-being, economic development and the achievement of sustainable development objectives.
